The Department of Public Health Dentistry offers a 3-year postgraduate program in Saveetha University. This is a centre of excellence in Oral Health Promotion and Prevention. The department is well equipped and has separate undergraduate and postgraduate divisions. The department renders free treatment to about 1000 outpatients on an average per month. These patients are referred from rural areas. The postgraduates are trained in Primary prevention, Epidemiological methods and research methodology. The Postgraduate residents are posted to the rural Peripheral health centres at Kuthambakkam and Thiruverkadu. Free dental screening and treatment camps are conducted frequently for the welfare of the public. A fully equipped mobile dental van is available for this purpose. The Department is well equipped with an Air conditioned Outpatient clinic for both undergraduates and postgraduates. The Department also has a seminar room with all audio visual aids. A state of the art Dental museum for imparting health education is located adjacent to the department.The Department offers a full range of preventive services like pit and fissure sealants and topical fluoride applications and oral prophylaxis, restorations and extractions. All treatments are rendered free of cost. The Department has two community peripheral dental health centres at Kuthambakkam and Thiruverkadu which offers free dental treatment catering to the need of 7 villages. The Postgraduate residents are posted to the rural Peripheral health centres at Kuthambakkam and Thiruverkadu. Free dental screening and treatment camps are conducted frequently for the welfare of the public. A fully equipped air conditioned mobile dental van is available to reach the population deprived of oral health services. Nearly 150 out reach dental camps are conducted every year.
