The department was established in the year 1992 with the aim to promote quality education and to develop competent nurses in the field of psychiatry, equipped with enriched knowledge and understanding of prevention and management of psychiatric disorders of childhood, adolescence and adulthood in the hospital and community settings.

The college has clinical tie-ups with Institute of Mental Health, Chennai, NIMHANS, Bangalore and George Psychiatric Nursing Home, Chennai.

The Students are also provided with counseling services to improve their academic performance.
