Oral Diagnosis & Medicine is that branch of Dental science which deals with the study, diagnosis and Medical management of Oral and Oro-facial diseases, emphasising the concept of systemic diseases in role of oral sepsis and oral manifestatious of systemic diseases with an objective of maintaining proper oral health for general health. Oral diagnosis is the art of identifying the diseases, defects dysfunction deformities by scientific methods. Radiology is included in this speciality and it is the study of radiation and its uses in taking radiographs for oral and orofacial diseases. The interpretation of these radiographs helps in proper diagnosis.

 

The Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology in Saveetha Dental College (Saveetha Institute of Medical And Technical Sciences) functions in three sections :-

 

ORAL DIAGNOSIS receiving all patients, examining the mouth, diagnosing the diseases with scientific methods and laboratory investigations, charting out in the prescribed case sheet and prescribing medical management and following the referral system.

 

ORAL MEDICINE All non-surgical and non-mechanical cases with oral cusion are being treated with various medical therapentics. Proper diagnosis and proper treatment are carried out for medically compromised patients. Giving opinion to the refeeral cases for local and systemic diseases.

 

ORAL AND MAXILLOFACIAL RADIOLOGY Taking intraoral, Extra oral, Skill radiographs, orthopantomogram, cephalometric radiographs, for mouth and teeth in various patients, giving interpretation and aiding in diagnosis.

 

The department has adequate space for oral diagnosis, Oral Medicine, and Dental Radiology. Sections for undergraduate and Post-Graduates are available separately. The department is equipped with 26 countoured chairs with units, one chair with special equipments like air motor, air motor, Intra oral periapical, Radio Visual graphy Intra oral camera. The department has sufficient equipment for sterlization. Radiology section has 1500 ma X-ray unit for skull and extra oral radiograph. 1 Orthopantomogram with cephalostat, 1 mobile x-ray unit 3 intra oral x-ray units. The radiology department is attached with a dark room with all provisions.
